Our Services

The GeriSmiles Mobile Hygiene team takes great pride in helping their clients maintain optimal oral health and a beautiful smile.

“If eyes are the windows to the soul, then the mouth is the window to the body.”
This powerful concept is one of the guiding principles of GeriSmiles. Our motto is to make dental hygiene care accessible to clients.  We help and educate our clients in achieving and maintaining optimum oral health. Our goal is to improve clients’ oral health by eliminating and preventing potential problems such as gum disease, tooth decay, bad breath, yellow teeth through education and treatment within our scope of practice. Preventing dental disease starts at home with good oral hygiene and a balanced diet.

Oral Assessment

Your initial visit will begin with a comprehensive dental hygiene exam. The dental hygienist will go through your medical and dental history, along with an assessment of your oral hygiene care at home. All the information collected will be discussed with you to prepare a personalized treatment plan. Client specific goals will be set to achieve the optimal oral health.

Dental Scaling

The removal of the soft (plaque) and hard (tarter) deposits from the teeth, both above and below the gum line is called scaling. If the plaque and tarter is left untreated it can cause gingivitis and can lead to irreversible periodontitis, which can further lead to tooth loss. The removal of plaque and calculus, and ultimately bacteria, is the best way to maintain healthy teeth and gums.

Dental Polishing

Dental polishing also known as Prophylaxis is done to remove any stains that teeth gather from food we eat or drink. Selective coronal polishing is done as per clients need to remove the extrinsic stains. The purpose of dental polishing is to leave the surfaces of teeth clean so that bacteria are unable to stick to them and you have a better chance of keeping the teeth clean during your regular home care.

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride aids in the prevention of decay as well as sensitivity by strengthening the enamel of the teeth and aiding in the re-mineralization process. Fluoride foam or gel is placed into small, flexible foam trays and placed over the teeth for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Afterwards the patient is directed to spit as much out as possible. It can also be done as a rinse like a mouthwash.

Sealants for Children

Dental sealants are thin plastic coatings placed over the chewing surfaces of back teeth to protect them from developing caries (tooth decay). Sealants cover the bumpy surfaces and crevices called “pits and fissures.” They keep food and plaque from getting trapped in those spaces. As long as sealants remain intact, they can protect the chewing surfaces from decay in children and adults. Sealants are durable and can stand up to daily chewing forces for months or even years.

Oral Health Education

The purpose of oral health education is to impart knowledge on the significance of good oral care and the importance of seeing a dental professional regularly. We aim to educate our clients about the importance of mechanical removal of oral biofilm via tooth brushing, flossing and use of chemotherapeutic agents. At Smiles on Wheels we assess and consider clients limitations, their risks, susceptibility to disease, their personal and cultural values and preferences before formulating the goals for daily oral care.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth-whitening has been around for years and has proven itself safe for most individuals. We provide two types of teeth whitening – Take-home whitening and In-office Boost whitening. Depending on the type of whitening, the maintenance procedure will vary. If you avoid colored food and teeth are maintained regularly, they generally remain white and bright for a long time.
